Beacon

A weather beacon is located at the summit of Chamossaire (200m above the Pas-de-maimbré take-off) and can be consulted here.

Weather

Before you go flying, it’s important to check the weather. There are several websites for this:

In our region, it is particularly important to pay attention to the foehn phenomenon. There are two types of foehn:

  • Southern Foehn
  • Northern Foehn

Foehn most often occurs when the pressure difference between Lugano and Zurich exceeds 4 hPa. These pressures are available here.

Foehn situation

Southern Foehn

If you see a foehn barrage on the Simplon, the wind at take-off is nil or light ESE, the beacons in the upper Valais indicate an ESE wind.

Northern Foehn

If the Chamossaire beacon indicates more than 25km/h from the North, we advise you not to take off.
